Cost of Home TV/Projector Installations

Whether you want a tilted mount TV, an 8K HD television mounted on top of your stone fireplace, or a projector so that you can watch your favorite shows from bed or home theater, an installer can help make your home entertainment more thrilling.
They can also help you select the right technology and display quality that will delight your family and guests from a multitude of options. With a professional TV/project installer’s help, you’ll know that the TV will fit your home’s aesthetic and audio system with pristine cable management. Not to mention, you won’t have to worry about pairing devices or setting up streaming services yourself.
You might wonder how much a professional installation will cost. Most home TV and projector installations will be a flat-rate upfront fee for both the equipment and labor. Three main factors can affect the cost of a residential TV or projector installation, including:
- Display quality (720p, 1080p, 4K, or 8K)
- Manual or motorized type of mount
- Scope of project

Schedule ConsultationDisplay Quality
The most significant factor that impacts your installation cost will be the TV or projector’s display quality, with OLED and 8K HD TVs being more expensive to install. While you can purchase an OLED 8K TV, it’s more common to choose to install one or the other.
Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) televisions provide the best picture display quality, which means they are in the highest price range. Their display doesn’t require a backlight and produces less blue light, providing a more comfortable viewing experience. Every individual pixel in an OLED TV is an LED light, so the lighting is uniform and colors are consistent. No backlight means incredibly slim TVs, and OLED TVs can be as thin as 1mm.
There’s no bad seat in your house with an OLED TV, as it can be seen well even from drastic angles. This top-of-the-line technology shows crisp and clear fast action movements, making it ideal for watching sports, movies, and gaming. You’ll also enjoy exquisite color contrast, intense color grading, and deep black levels for more lifelike image quality. Perfect black levels mean better outer space scenes and darkly lit indoor shots.
8K HD TVs are more affordable than OLED TVs while still providing ultra-sharp resolution than 4K UHD or HDTVs, with 33 million pixels. An 8K HD TV can make HD or 4K source material look like 8K HD—even on large screen sizes, which is vital because there is little to no 8K content created. This TV is optimal for those who want to indulge in a big screen without sacrificing image quality or budget.
Another option is to set up and install a 4K or 8K projector, which is more affordable than a TV and can give you a bigger display. Many high-resolution projectors these days have excellent contrast ratios, accurate color, and great brightness. Projectors with advanced features will cost more to install. For example, some models use lasers to create light, come with motorized zoom capabilities, or have built-in speakers.
Manual or Motorized Type of Mount
Depending on where you want the TV in your home, your installer will mount it in one of these three ways to reduce the viewer’s neck strain:
- Full motion
- Tilt
- Fixed
A full-motion TV mount costs the most during an installation but gives you the most versatility, as you can extend, retract, and rotate it. It’s great for multiple viewing angles without a glare so that people can watch from anywhere in the room. This mount also allows you to mount the TV in an area with limited space while maintaining access to your TV’s ports and cables. For example, the installer can mount your TV in a corner or recessed area.
Tilt mounts allow you to move your TV up or down by approximately 45 degrees. This is the best mount for TVs above eye level, such as over a fireplace or above your bed. You can then watch TV from a couch, bed, or floor without craning your neck or being distracted by the glare of windows or lamps.
A fixed mount is the most affordable installation option since you can’t move this TV for easier viewing. The installer will put your TV flush against the wall at about standing eye level. You’ll have limited access to its ports and cables unless they are specifically situated before drilling.
For projectors, we recommend homeowners have an installer mount a traditional projector to their ceilings. This way, they can sit however they want without getting in the way of the beam. The ceiling mount must be at the right height to avoid warping the image and keep everything optimally aligned.
However, some projectors don’t require any ceiling mounting. Short-throw and ultra-short-throw projectors can sit mere feet away from the screen. These projectors provide large clear images without eye glare or shadows. You’ll be able to enjoy excellent image quality in small rooms and not have to worry about people disrupting the entertainment when they get up to use the bathroom. Installers will typically put short-throw and ultra-short-throw projectors on a table or entertainment center. If they are mounted, it’s usually a wall mount.
Scope of Project
The TV or projector mounting difficulty can affect your installation costs, as projects can range in scope from a simple wall TV mount to designing a custom home theater with lighting and sound integration. During your initial consultation, the project manager will review your home, entertainment needs, and budget to provide an upfront estimate. They will also include additional post-installation services if applicable in the quote.
For a TV installation, your installer will consider factors such as the room’s layout, how many windows and outlets it has, and whether the surface you want a TV mounted on needs to be recessed. Working with these factors will give you the best screen visibility and keep your new equipment cool during the day. After the installation, they will conduct cable management and coordinate and calibrate your devices (such as video game consoles and smart home assistants) with your TV.
For a projector installation, it’s vital to place them in the right location best suited for the screen size, so your installer will spend time mapping out its distance. Bigger screen sizes will require moving the projector further back to prevent the dreaded “screen door effect,” where you can see individual pixels when sitting up close. After mounting the projector, your installer will perform cable management and hook up your receiver and soundbar. They will also walk you through the preset picture, lamp, and game modes, along with the dynamic and iris settings.
In contrast, short-throw and ultra-short-throw projector installations are more affordable projects. They produce clear images even with less distance between them and the screen than a traditional projector, eliminating the need for ceiling mounts and making them ideal for small spaces. Since they can sit directly in front of a screen, installers will place them on coffee tables and entertainment centers. Or, they will mount them close to a wall.
Another benefit of a short-throw or ultra-short-throw projector is that installers can easily tuck cables from sight. Once they finish cable management, they will adjust the aspect ratio settings and show you how to use the projector.
